Marissa Lauren is a singer/songwriter from Redondo Beach, CA. She writes piano driven Pop music with heavy Indie Pop and Folk influences, plus the occasional sprinkling of Soul. She has been compared to artists like Regina Specktor, Sara Bareilles, Kate Nash, and Adele. Marissa recently caught the attention of singer Ingrid Michaelson who called her voice 'beautiful' & 'haunting'. Since then, she has opened for comedian, Lena Dunham, on her unconventional book tour for 'Not That Kind of Girl', and released her Debut EP, "Now & Forever", and a special collection of holiday songs, "It's Christmas All Around".
Marissa was awarded Best Vocals, Most Original, and Song of The Year at UC Irvine's Antstock music festival; a campus-wide competition for songwriters. Her cover of Nicki Minaj's, 'Starships' gained much attention when Nicki Minaj herself tweeted Marissa's video to her 17 million followers. 97.1 AMP Radio also named Marissa's acoustic/acapella version of 'Starships' one of "the best covers of the year's hottest tracks!". Her cover projects have inspired her to explore music production. Today, she arranges, records, and produces music projects from her home studio.
When she isn't writing, or collaborating with other artists and producers, you can find her playing shows all over Southern California & using her music to fight back against cancer. Marissa works with The American Cancer Society for their Relay for Life events which raises funds for their invaluable cancer research and patient services.
